Create a headline for an article about this program targeted to graduating high school students. I am specifically not telling you what to do or the questions that need to be asked. Please explain what you did, why and any other reasons/justifications you need to provide to me for the headline you created. (6 Marks)

Headline

“Start Your Advertising and Marketing Journey with St. Clair College: The Best Choice for Recent High School Graduates”

I went to ChatGPT and created a prompt to generate 3 headlines for an article targeting high school graduating students. The goal it was to promote the Advertising and Marketing program at St. Clair College. I tested different prompts, and in the last one it was indicated that the program had to be promoted like the best option for the target audience. Finally, I obtained 3 headlines for this assignment.

The headline that I chose for question #6 promise that the program at St. Clair College is the best option for recent high school graduates and provide a call to action: “Start your journey in the best choice for you”. The idea is to get the audience attention. In the headline it is claimed that the program is the best option, the article has to convince them that this is true. If I tell the audience that this is the best option for them they would like to know why I say that. They will be looking for evidence about what I am saying in the headline. The subhead line can provide more detail and reinforce.

It is direct and focus in one thing “start your career here”. I think the headline talks to the audience, they want to know what the best option for them and their future is. It is clear and direct. In my opinion, the word “journey” reflects the process of building a career and for me talks about adventure as well. This what I am going through as student. Every project, assignment, trip, or event is part of this adventure. This is my journey in the Advertising and Marketing industry.

The headline says the most important, what the audience needs to know. This decision will impact their present and future in multiple ways. The message has to be strong and clear.

As discussed in class, why do you feel Headlines are so important in web content? Please provide me with an example of a headline you clicked on recently (submit the exact headline including a screenshot) and outline in detail why you clicked it. In question #1, I asked why it resonated with you. For this question, I am asking why you actually clicked on it. This cannot be the same headline as question #1 (8 Marks)

Headlines are an extremely important part of content creation. They are the ones that attract the attention of the audiences so that they consume the content that is provided to them. Each piece of content has a particular objective as part of the marketing strategy, if the headline is not good enough get the attention of the target audience, it will not be able to attract them and the company can lose them forever. There is just want chance to create a good impression and to be in front of the audience. If it is not consistent with the content offered, the audience will be disappointed and this will affect the image of the brand.

It is a very sensitive topic; headlines sell products and services. However, it is an art to craft headlines. In the course content, there is a method that suggest writing 100 headlines, it calls the Rule of Third Third. The first third will be the most commons, the second third are more creative, but the last third offer something unique and innovative headlines.

It takes time and practice to be an expert in the headlines’ creation, but it is worth it. Better headlines are equal to better profits.

This is the headline that I clicked during my time scrolling on Twitter. It made me feel curious about the news:

Facebook – owner Meta to cut 10,000 staff

Every morning I just go to Twitter to find what is new, I just scroll through the app. This time the tweet kept my attention, the news is not good for the tech industry. I felt concerned about the economy. Things does not look good. I wanted to know more about the headline.

The headline is short, direct, and clear. I knew that it was a new story that was going to be in the headlines that day, I wanted to know what the layoffs would be like. I can talk about the news if it is needed. I also felt sad for those affected, and after seeing how Elon Musk has fired people from Twitter, I wanted to know how Mark Zuckerberg was going to do. The headline in this case did not offer a promise or benefit, but it did surprise me and feeds my concern about the possibility of an economic recession. I think I was more moved by curiosity, fear, and the possibility of facing a layoff.

Find one (1) headline that you came across recently and thought it was great. Explain why it resonated with you. Please ensure that you base your answers on topics discussed in class. (6 Marks)
Headline:

Six lifestyle choices to slow memory decline named in 10’year study

The headline has a number. In class it was discussed that headlines with numbers are usually attractive to internet users. It tells me what I can expect from the article to start with. Six things do not look like a long reading.

The subject interests me, keeping my memory is something that worries me, and I was curious to know if I am doing the right thing to take care of my memory. Number seven is the one with the most reading rate, but the suggestion in class was use a number under 9.

In addition, the head and subhead of the article claims to be based on a scientific study, so the information must have some reliability. That is important for me, it has authority.

Preserving a good memory is the benefit they offer. The article promises to tell me how to do it. In class we have talked about how headlines that give a promise, offer a benefit, and say how to achieve what the audience seeks to find or needs tend to attract internet users. After reading the article, I found that there is room for improvement.

The headline works for people like me, it is short, direct, gives a promise, mentions the benefit, and show authority for the audience. It is attractive and surprise the digital users who are worry about their memory. This article is for middle age or older people.
